Abstract
To be able to develop psychosocial interventions tailored to children and young people with visual impairment, we must first understand which are the key risk and protective factors that may impact positive adjustment outcomes in this group and the most critical time periods when they exert the biggest influence. This is the focus of Ana’s PhD project and this talk, where she will briefly reviewed the study’s mixed-methods approach, and discuss the first findings from both the postal survey and the in-depth interviews. The talk will outline the long adjustment process to living with visual impairment and offer some insight in the specific challenges of families with visually impaired child. Ana will conclude the talk by highlighting critical discussion points raised by participating families, and outlining the potential intervention targets.
